It’s that time of year to put on a costume, indulge in some treats and celebrate the changing of the seasons and the thinning of the veil between this world…and the spirit plane. During the Middle Ages, as the Christian Roman holiday of All Saints’ Day spread to other Christianized areas, Hallowtide traditions merged with local cultures. In Celtic regions that formerly celebrated Sahmain, the new All Hallows Eve traditions that arose included jack-o-lanterns, bonfires, trick or treating and wearing scary costumes. Samhain was a pagan religious festival originating from an ancient Celtic spiritual tradition. Celebrants believe that the barriers between the physical world and the spirit world break down during All Hallows Eve, allowing more interaction between humans and denizens of the Otherworld.

We will be dancing to some dark disco by DJ GIV, munching on treats by the Six Counties Restaurant, sipping on cocktails and getting into the spirit!! Make sure you wear a costume to disguise yourself from wandering spirits and ghouls (if you are sticking to tradition animal heads and skins, masks and costumes resembling spooks and demons are just the thing). There will also be tarot card readings and maybe some tricks. Take a break from dancing and watch the 1922 silent film Nosferatu…no biting unless you are invited.
