Bach and Florid Song
Austral Harmony presents a Bach Soirée of music composed for the Weimar Palace chapel featuring florid obbligatos, intricately ornamented melody and the enchanting sonorities of historical instruments. Performed in the prevailing European manner from the ‘loft’ of the tonally colourful Allen organ. A programme of extraordinary musical imagery showcasing Bach’s prodigious gift at setting popular chorales, and where vocal lines are substituted by instruments, a practice adopted by Bach himself.
Sarah Meagher (recorder); Margaret Caley (baroque violin and viola); Jane Downer (baroque oboe and oboe d’amore); Camilla Tafra (baroque ‘cello); Phillip Gearing (organ)
Concert welcome talk – 5.30pm.
