Fiori Musicali – Armidale

St Matthew Passion
J S Bach’s monumental St Matthew Passion is considered a pinnacle of western sacred music.
Scored for three choirs, two orchestras and six soloists it is very rarely performed outside our capital cities and is a rare treat for a regional area such as Armidale.
The Passion (meaning ‘suffering’ or ‘endurance’ in the context of the crucifixion story) tells of Jesus’ betrayal, arrest, judgement and crucifixion in highly dramatic and musical language. It will be sung in English.
More than 60 local musicians will be joined by soloists from Sydney. Conducted by Bruce Menzies.
