National Science Week: Walk @ Gara Gorge

Coach travel will be provided from Armidale Visitor Information Centre (please arrive prior to departure time).

Walk Blue Hole Threlfall Track Loop

A ranger, a botanist and an ecologist wander in the New England . . . . . . . and you’re invited join them.

For National Science Week 2024, UNE Discovery, in partnership with the local National Parks & Wildlife Services (NPWS) team and UNE academics, have arranged two visitor walks in the New England area to observe, question and be informed of local flora, fauna, insects and/or fungi and how they have adapted to the changing environment of the region whether due to climate or human factors. Our passionate and knowledgeable hosts will describe whatever species are able to be observed on the day in each location and discuss their adaptations to the unique New England environment while in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.

Limit four (4) per booking.

If you’re interested in nature and bushwalking and would like to learn more about our local environment and what’s living in our national parks, this is for you. Participants must be fit and healthy and be able to comfortably walk 5-6km on uneven terrain. BYO drink bottle, wear hiking boots or shoes and keep your eye on the weather forecast for suitable clothing.

A sausage sizzle will be provided. You will have the opportunity to chat with walk leaders about what you have seen before returning to the Armidale Visitor Information Centre.
