UNE Psyc-Flicks – “Eternal Sunshine…”

Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind (2004)

Guest Speakers: Alycia Messing, PhD Candidate, School of Psychology, University of New England. Annette Stevenson, Psychologist, Armidale Adult Community Mental Health Service

Is ignorance really bliss? In this Oscar-winning film, timid Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) is shocked to discover that after their painful breakup, eccentric free-thinking Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had him erased from her memory by undergoing a painless but intricate medical procedure. Hurt and angry, Joel does the same and slowly begins to forget the woman he loved. As the once-cherished recollections of Clementine gradually fade away, something unexpected happens. Joel begins to have second thoughts and attempts  the impossible task of stopping the irreversible process. This visually arresting film explores the intricacy of relationships and the pain of loss.

Exploring psychology through the world of cinema. Hear about the psychological concepts in the film with a short talk before the screening and an audience Q+A afterwards.
