Mother of Ducks Lagoon Nature Reserve is turning 50 and to celebrate we are holding an anniversary event in conjunction with World Wetland Day. Come celebrate with us and experience the reserve first hand in a unique and special way! Mother of Ducks is an important place for local Anaiwan and Banbai people and is a rare breeding place for many freshwater wetland bird species and a resting place for numerous migratory birds. Over the holidays NECOM took delivery of our new concert grand piano, a Shigeru Kawai SK7, proudly funded by the NSW Government through the Creative Capital Funding Program. The new piano will be launched on Sunday 19 February at 3:00pm, in a concert featuring the NECOM piano staff and advanced students. Wild Thyme is an exciting meeting between three of regional Australia’s brilliantly talented, versatile, and captivating female artists. Coming from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds, the juxtaposition of Arlene Fletcher (double bass), Katie Crane (guitar), and Laura Targett (fiddle), infuses their varied musical passions into an exciting brew of acoustic music which defies genre and cultivating a whole new style of their own.

Come along for a wonderful Sunday afternoon of live music, good company at a great venue. This week the trio features the musical artistry of Sharny Russell on piano and vocals, Wendy Griffiths on double bass and Cary Bennett on vocals and rums, performing classic popular songs from the 1930s through to the 1970s, tunes made famous by Frank Sinatra, tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Peggy Lee, Bobby Darin, Diana Krall, Harry Connick Jr and others.

Tea and sausages available from 11.30am. The music this concert feature organists, Lena Schmalz and Eloise Ford, playing classical favourites arranged for organ, including pieces by Handel, Purcell, Chopin, Mussorgski, and Bach-Gounod. Lena is one of Armidale’s most accomplished organists and Eloise is an emerging star and holder of the Uniting Church organ scholarship.
