Cafe Patisserie, Armidale

Day 1

Morning

Enjoy breakfast with a French twist at Café Patisserie. This cosy café buzzes with activity as locals stop by for a warm buttery croissant to go with their morning coffee. Open 8am-2pm daily.

Walk through the Armidale’s Beardy Street Mall for a spot of shopping and book shop delights at Boo Books or Reader’s Companion (both open 9am-1pm Saturdays).

Explore the vibrant and colourful street art scene in Armidale and surrounds with the free Armidale Street Art Walking Tour, featuring street artists with local connections, including CRISP, James O’Hanlon, and Silly Pear.

Lunch

Head out to Petersons Winery for lunch overlooking the gorgeous heritage listed gardens while enjoying a delicious drop of wine (reservations are required for both lunch and dinner).

Afternoon

A short 25 minute drive is Dangars Falls picnic area and walking track with dramatic views over scenic waterfalls in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. Open 7am-7pm daily.

Evening

Experience live music and delicious food at the award-winning Tattersalls Hotel on Saturdays (5pm-8pm).

Day 2

Morning

Grab a coffee from one of Armidale’s newest venues, Double Drop, or Herdie’s Coffee, and on Sunday, explore a local farmers’ market for local produce, crafts and live music.

Dumaresq Dam Reserve – Take a stroll along the 2.5 km walking track that winds through beautiful eucalypt woodlands and circles the entire dam. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise, with plenty of feathered friends to spot along the way. And for all the anglers out there, the dam’s stocked with trout and even the occasional bass — perfect for casting a line and enjoying the serene surroundings!

Lunch

Head towards the New England Regional Art Museum for an outdoor lunch at the Six Counties Restaurant, led by chef Kevin Harris who moved to Armidale after successful ventures in Sydney. Kev’s vision is to focus on locally sourced, high-quality produce, and everything made fresh on site. Open 8am-3pm Tuesday -Sunday.

Afternoon

Wander through the New England Regional Art Museum (NERAM) – a leading cultural and arts tourism destination in regional Australia, and home to one of the nation’s most significant art collections outside the capital cities. Holding a collection of over 5000 works of historical, modern and contemporary art. Open 10am-4pm Tuesday – Sunday.

Evening

Make your way to Signor Vertelli where they take pride in using high-quality ingredients to create delicious and authentic pizza. Whether you’re dining in or taking away, you’ll feel right at home in their warm, welcoming space. Make sure you look out for the specials board, honestly the best Italian dishes outside of Italy.
